STEPH PIRRIE JAZZ

Steph Pirrie is a jazz trumpet player, vocalist, composer & arranger based in Oxford. She regularly performs with her quartet, & writes and arranges music and runs the Popular Jericho Singers choir. She runs workshops and singing days for beginners through to advanced singers including the new Jazz Club Night for singers - The Steph Pirrie Jazz Chorus.

She began studying voice and classical trumpet aged 11. While bringing up her family, Steph became interested in Jazz and inspired by her love of harmony and groove-based music, she began her own study which included courses and workshops plus tuition with some of the UK’s great Jazz musicians and a 3 year study period at the UK Jazz School. Now Steph performs regularly with her band in Oxford and surrounding areas including London.

Steph is also a conductor & accredited vocal coach and conductor specialising in acapella, backing vocals and choirs. She taught Robert Peston how to sing Bohemian Rhapsody for a performance on Radio 4.

Steph performs as a soloist and works with a number of collaborative projects. She also plays trumpet for the Cutting Edge Big Band.

CONDUCTOR & CHOIR LEADER

Steph runs the popular Jericho Singers, a weekly (Monday evening & Wednesday lunchtime) choir in St Barnabas Church in Oxford. She also mentors choir leaders in other groups and runs pop-up choir events for singers of all abilities.

Steph has a diploma in choral conducting from the Associated Board of Choral Conductors and she is especially interested in teaching singers and groups to sing groove-based music.

Being passionate about people and people singing together, she is an accredited Vocal Process Singing teacher (www.vocal process.co.uk) and vocal coach and has professional experience in many contemporary genres including soul, pop, folk, gospel and jazz.

Working with different groups, from beginners to professionals, she shares her broad experience across multiple styles & genres.

She also runs workshops and pop-up singing sessions from her base in Oxford. Steph has been involved in a number of music for health projects including setting up the first Soundabout for young people with severe learning disabilities. www.soundabout.com

THREE IDLE WOMEN
Steph has been involved in the Jericho Wharf campaign to save the Jericho Boatyard for…. a very long time…! Her love of canals and waterways is brought to music life through the Three Idle Women Project. Working with Jane Rouse and Charlie Henry the trio write and perform songs that reflect the stories of life on and around the waterways especially the Oxford canal which runs through Jericho in Oxford. NE.MO
Steph’s love of electronica and improvisation come together trough the NE.MO project, an EDM collaboration based in Oxford.
